Day 1 , Sunday – EDINBURGH
Arrive in Edinburgh were you are transferred to your hotel for overnight
accommodations.
Day 2, Monday – EDINBURGH / INVERNESS
Depart this morning via the Edradour Distillery for a visit. Continue to
Cawdor Castle for another visit before arriving in Inverness.
Day 3, Tuesday – INVERNESS / THURSO/ ORKNEYS - Overnight Ferry
Early morning departure for Scrabster for the ferry departure to
Stromness on the Orkney Islands (approximately 1 hour and 45 minutes)
passing spectacular cliff scenery of Hoy. Stromness has been a safe, natural
harbour from Viking days and through the years has played host to herring
and whaling fleets and the occasional pirate. Cross the four Churchill
Barriers and overlook Scapa Flow, where the German fleet scuttled itself in
World War I. Visit the Italian chapel, built by prisoners of war in 1943
from scrap metal, concrete, and other materials, then head for Skara Brae,
where you see the remains of a 5,000-year-old Neolithic village and visit
Skaill House. Also see the Ring of Brodgar, the Orkneys’ Stonehenge, and
Kirkwall, the picturesque island capital with a Viking flavor and red
sandstone cathedral. Later we board the overnight ferry to Lerwick in the
Shetlands.
Day 4 – Wednesday – SHETLAND ISLES – Overnight ferry
Full day tour of Shetland with a visit to Jarlshof Prehistoric and Norse
Settlement, a three acre complex of ancient settlements form the Stone and
Bronze ages. Wildlife abounds here: Shetland is home to Europe’s largest
colony of otters, tiny ponies roam free and there are also large seal and
seabird colonies. Free time in Lerwick before embarking the ferry for the
overnight cruise to Aberdeen. Dinner aboard the ferry.
Day 5 – Thursday – ABERDEEN / EDINBURGH
Disembark ferry in Aberdeen. Tour Aberdeen and continue to Caithness
Glass via Braemer before arriving in Edinburgh. Tour city before dinner and
overnight
Day 6 – Friday – Depart Edinburgh
