Day 1

Arrive Sydney and transfer to your hotel for a three-night stay.

Day 2

Full Day sightseeing tour including Sydney Harbour Cruise.

Depart Sydney on the Indian-Pacific for your rail journey to Perth

Day 5

Relax as your train climbs through the Blue Mountains and visits the historic mining town of Broken Hill before reaching Adelaide.

Day 6

Continue your Indian-Pacific travel across the Nullabor Plain where the train travels the longest straight stretch of track in the world. The observant may spot dingoes, kangaroos and bird life. On a clear night in this desolate area the sky is brilliant with stars stretching to the horizon.

Day 7

Arrive Perth and transfer to your hotel.

Day 8

Full Day tour to Wave Rock, Hyden, and Aboriginal Cave Paintings.

Day 9

Rottnest Island and Fremantle tour.

Day 10

Depart Perth by air to Adelaide.

Depart Adelaide on The Ghan for your rail journey to Alice Springs.

Day 12

Cross desert country, passing salt lakes and red rocky ranges to the heart of the continent, Alice Springs. Afternoon Town Tour of Alice including the Telegraph Station Historical Reserve and the Royal Flying Doctor Base. Visit the School of the Air and learn about Aboriginal culture and lifestyle.

Day 13

Travel by coach to the West MacDonnell Ranges. Stop at Simpsons Gap. Walk through Stanley Chasm, then travel to Ellery Creek Gorge. Afternoon visit to Alice Springs Desert Park.

Day 14

Coach to Ayers Rock with comprehensive commentary on the surroundings en route.

Day 15

Afternoon tour to the Olgas, a series of 36 conglomerate domes. The Aboriginal people of the area call them "Kata Tjuta," meaning "many heads". There is time for walking before returning to Ayers Rock before sunset.

Day 16

Depart Ayers Rock by air to Sydney.

Originally The Ghan followed the old Afghan camel train route. Today The Ghan is a comfortable, modern adventure. The Sunlander is a popular way to view the passing panorama between Cairns and Brisbane.

Day 1

Arrive Sydney and transfer to hotel for a three-night stay.

Depart Sydney by air for Adelaide. Transfer to hotel for two-night stay.

Full Day Barossa Valley Tour of Australia’s premier wine country.

Depart Adelaide early evening on the Indian-Pacific.

Day 7

Cross the desolate Nullabor Plain where the train travels the longest straight stretch of track in the world (478kms). Stop at the tiny outpost of Cook for a stroll. From the train the observant might spot dingoes, kangaroos and bird life, including the train’s emblem, the wedge tailed eagle. From your sleeping berth see a sky free from city lights and thick with stars to the horizon.

Day 8

Arrive Perth and transfer to your hotel. Most of the Day is available to wander through this pleasant city on the Swan River.

Day 9

Depart Perth for your four-day tour of the Southwest. This morning travel south via the Stirling Range National Park to the picturesque coastal town of Albany on the Southern Coast.

Day 10

Visit Natural Bridge and The Gap and enjoy a scenic harbour cruise. Stop at Denmark and the Valley of the Giants "Tree Top Walk." Continue to the town of Pemberton.

Day 11

Leaving Pemberton travel west to Augusta and Cape Leeuwin. After lunch visit Mammoth Cave. Continue to the wine region of Margaret River.

Day 12

Visit Eagle Heritage for a unique opportunity to handle birds-of-prey and watch a free flight display. Enjoy a short tour of the coastline and return to Perth via Busselton and Bunbury.

Day 13

Cruise to Rottnest Island for an around the island coach tour. See the quokkas found only on Rottnest. From Rottnest your cruise will take you to Fremantle where a coach awaits to show you the sights of this historical city. There will be time for shopping at the markets before returning to Perth past coastline and beaches.

Day 14

Depart Perth.

Some of the trains in Australia travel during the day, but most travel during the night and arrive in the morning, so we have listed the rates to include First Class berth accommodation. First Class seat-only rates are also available, and for the budget-conscious traveller, berth or seat-only rates in Holiday or Economy class are available. Please inquire with us for these other rates and for schedules. Note: Many of the trains in Australia do not run every day so please check with us for their days of operation and departure/arrival times. Also, reverse routing is possible.

RAIL PASSES

The best way to see Australia is with Australia's rail passes. They are available to visitors and can be only purchased outside of Australia. Rail passes give unlimited travel anywhere on Australian rail networks.

We have listed the rates for Economy Class seats. If sleeping berths are required, an additional charge is applicable. Berth and/or meal charges are compulsory on certain trains and must be prepaid. Many of the major rail services in Australia are heavily patronized so advance reservations are recommended and can be made up to six months in advance.

A very economical way of seeing Australia. The Austrailpass gives unlimited Economy Class travel anywhere on the rail network (including metropolitan trains) in a specific number of consecutive days.
