DAILY ITINERARY

to get to know the area. Catalonia is justly proud of its historic ad cultural
heritage and its vibrant capital.
Hotel: Oriente (ST), Guitart Almirante (F), Colon (SF)
Day 2 Barcelona
Sightseeing includes the Gothic Quarter, one of Europe's architectural gems.
Many buildings date back to the 15th Century. Nearby the famous tree-lined
avenue, Las Ramblas, leads to the sea. Barcelona has many excellent museums and
art collections. Don't miss the Casa Batllo on Passeig de Cracia, the unfinished
masterpiece of Antonio Gaudi, or the whimsical Parc Guell. (B)
Day 3 Barcelona/Valencia
Travel by train south along the eastern seaboard to Valencia, Spain's third
largest city. Ceramic domed roofs glitter in the Levantine sunshine, and the
tree-lined boulevards of the modern town contrast with old-fashioned patios and
plazas of the old quarter. (B)
Hotel: Expo (ST), Melia Rey Don Jaime (F), Melia Plaza (SF)
Day 4 Valencia/Granada
Pick up your car after breakfast and continue south along the coastline past the
holiday spots of Benidorm and Alicante, into Adalusia and Granada
Hotel: Navas (ST), Luz Granada (F), Gran Luna de Granada (SF)
Day 5 Granada
Built in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada mountain ranges, Granada was the
last Moorish kingdom of Spain. It's fascinating Spanish/Islamic architecture
reached its climax in Granada's Alhambra. Other Places of interest are the
Generalife Gardens, the cathedral, the Capilla Real, Royal Chapel, the
Monasterio de la Cartuja, and the two fascinating quarters known as the Albaicin
and Sacromonte, the gypsy caves where flamenco is performed. (B)
Day 6 Granada/Costa del Sol
Today's short drive will take you to the famed Costa del Sol, the Sunshine
Coast, stretching 300 kilometers east of Gibraltar to the borders of Almeria.
Much of the Costa del Sol's popularity is its agreeable climate. Golf courses,
tennis courts, riding schools and marinas stud the entire coast. Overnight in
Torremolinos.
Hotel: El Pinar (ST), El Pinar (F), Melia Costa del Sol (SF)
Day 7 Costa del Sol
A day at leisure for sightseeing or to take advantage of the great shopping and
beaches. Vestiges of the original fishing village can be discerned in La
Carihueal, which has great seafood restaurants. (B)
Day 8 Costa del Sol/Seville
A serious tour of Andalusia would be incomplete without a visit to Cordoba.
Drive to Cordoba for a self-guided tour of the Great Mosque, now converted into
a cathedral. Continue your drive through the picturesque Andalusian countryside
to Seville. (B)
Hotel: Las Casas de la Juderia (ST), La Giralda (F), Melia Confort Macarena (SF)
Day 9 Seville
Use your Hop-On Hop-Off city tour to get oriented to Seville. Later, you may
want to visit the massive 15th Century Catheral, where Columbus lies beneath a
monumental tomb, as well as the nearby Giralda Tower, a former Minaret and a
masterpiece of Moorish elegance. See the Alcazar and the Santa Cruz Quarter,
with its flower-decked wrought iron balconies. Bizet's Carmen evokes the passion
of the city, always lively. (B)
Day 10 Seville/Madrid
After breakfast return your rental car and continue by the Premier AVE train to
Madrid. For many visitors, Madrid's main interest lies in its superb art
collections at the Prado Museum, the Thyssen-Bornemisza Museum. The Museo
Nacional "Centro de Arte Reina Sofia" features Picasso's Guernica
among other 20th century Spanish art. Perhaps take in one of the evening tours
offered on page 9 of this brochure.
Hotel: Regina (ST), Mayorazgo (F), Conde Duque (SF)
Day 11 Madrid
Your morning tour of Madrid includes visits to the Royal Palace, one of the best
preserved in Europe. The tour continues o to the Prado Museum with time to
wander through one of Europe's most comprehensive art collections. Elegant parks
and avenues with smart shops, a delightful old town around the graceful Plaza
Mayor and vibrant nightlife are some of the aspects that make Madrid such an
invigorating experience. (B)
