Papua New Guinea
|
 |
Papua New Guinea is located 100 miles north of Australia and
makes up half of the second largest island in the world (the other half is Irian Jaya,
Indonesia). The country's physical beauty is very seductive. It lends isolated beaches,
remote islands, dense jungles, volcanic mountains, and wild birds. It is an ideal
destination for seasoned travelers interested in excellent scuba diving and primitive
cultures. The climate is tropical, always being on the warm side, and the monsoon season
is December to March. The best time to visit is in April or November. Papua New Guinea has
a parliamentary democracy. Its languages are Melanesian pidgin, English, Motu, and over
700 separate languages, each of which is linked to a tribal culture with its own
traditions and customs. Travel advisory: Organized tours are highly recommended for all
but the most adventurous visitors. Caution should be exercised when visiting Papua New
Guinea.
