Vanuatu is a 500-mile chain of islands lying between Fiji
and Australia. It ranges in topography from towering volcanic cones to dense rainforest to
raised coral islands with wide beaches and deep, natural harbors. The scenery is simply
breathtaking. Traditional island cultures, good beaches, and fabulous diving are the chief
attractions of Vanuatu. The climate is tropical humid with southeast trade winds keeping
it ideal. Average temperatures fall in the mid-70s to mid-80s F. May to October is the
best time to visit. Vanuatu is a self-governing republic. The most commonly spoken
language is Bislama, in addition to English, French, and more than 115 "mother
tongues."
