On a self-guided walking holiday you follow the route without a guide, staying somewhere different each night. We arrange your accommodation along the trail and transport your luggage to your next night's accommodation.
All of our self-guided walks featured are way-marked and easy to follow with the aid of the guidebooks and maps provided.
You can start a self-guided walking holiday on any date you want. If you wish, you can extend the tour by adding extra nights for rest days or sightseeing.
What's Included
- Accommodation in comfortable hotels, country inns, family-run guesthouses and farmhouse bed and breakfast's along the trail, that have been carefully chosen for their warm and friendly welcome and the quality of their accommodation. We always book en-suite rooms with private bathrooms where they are available, but some, in the remoter areas where accommodation is limited, may not have private facilities.
- A traditional cooked breakfast. In keeping with the flexible nature of these tours we do not arrange lunches or evening meals for you. Packed lunches are available each day from your accommodation, although you may prefer to stop for lunch at an inn or café along the trail. Evening meals are available at your accommodation each night or from an inn nearby. Our trail notes describe the options available for your lunch and evening meal each day.
- Luggage transfer (one suitcase per person) between each overnight stop
- A comprehensive set (one per party) of maps with the route marked on and a guidebook describing the trail.
- Trail notes with a day-to-day itinerary, information on facilities and points of interest along the trail, what to bring in the way of clothing and personal kit and a contact telephone number in case you need any assistance.

St Cuthbert's Way
This delightful walk links a number of places associated with the story of a 7th century saint who travelled widely on foot through Scotland and northern England spreading the Gospel and performing healing miracles. Beginning at Melrose in the Scottish Borders where the saint started his ministry and ending at Holy Island in England where he ended his days, the trail passes through scenery of great variety and beauty.

Speyside Way
The Speyside Way follows Scotland’s loveliest river from the Moray Firth to the foothills of the Cairngorm Mountains through the heart of malt whisky country. Following paths and disused railway trackbeds the trail passes through a beguiling mix of scenery: the wave-battered shores of the Moray Firth, rich farmland, mixed woodland, heather-clad hills and ancient Caledonian pine forests. Along the way it visits many attractive villages and small towns as well as sites of historical interest including stone circles, standing stones, pictish relics, imposing castles and ancient kirks. This beautiful corner of Scotland is also rich in a wide variety of wildlife, from dolphins at Spey Bay to Ospreys at Loch Garten. Other highlights include the opportunity to visit some of the most famous distilleries in Scotland including Machallan, Glenfiddich, Cardhu and Glenlivet.

Northumberland's Coastal Castles
Northumberland's coast is famous for its wild, unspoilt beauty with long beaches of golden sand, quaint little fishing villages and spectacular castles perched on rocky headlands. This delightful trail offers constantly changing views, rock pools to explore, historic monasteries and castles and abundant birdlife, with cormorants, kittiwakes, oystercatchers, fulmars, terns, and guillemots on the beach, islets and headlands. Hadrian's Wall
In AD 122 Emperor Hadrian ordered the construction of a wall across northern England to hold back the advancing Barbarians. Despite the depredations of the centuries, it remains the largest ancient monument in northern Europe, and the best way to appreciate it and the ruggedly beautiful countryside around it is to walk it, following in the footsteps of the Legionnaires.

Lake District Short Breaks - Northern Lakes
During the nineteenth century, adventurous travellers journeyed by horse-drawn carriage through Borrowdale and onto Buttermere via the Honister Pass, before returning to Keswick through the Newlands Valley. The Cleveland Way is a horseshoe-shaped route around the edge of the North York Moors National Park. Beginning in the old market town of Helmsley, the trail follows the western escarpment of the North York Moors to meet the coast at Saltburn-by-the-Sea, and then takes in the whole of the North Yorkshire and Cleveland Heritage Coast to finish at the Victorian seaside town of Filey.

The Ridgeway
The Ridgeway runs from Avebury in Wiltshire to Ivinghoe Beacon in Buckinghamshire. The trail follows part of an ancient track established by prehistoric man that stretched across the country from Dorset to Norfolk. It passes through two distinct landscapes. The Ridgeway has a long and rich history. Stone Age man left the long barrows at West Kennet, Wayland’s Smithy, and Whiteleaf Hill as well as the extraordinary stone circle at Avebury and Silbury Hill, the largest man-made mound in Europe. The Ridgeway was the main route for the Saxons and Vikings during their advances into Wessex.

This magnificent trail follows the coastline of the Pembrokeshire National Park through some of the most spectacular coastal scenery in Britain. For much of the time the path keeps to the clifftops, providing superb views of the cliffs, beaches and offshore stacks and islands with their abundant birdlife. Each turn in the path reveals something different - a little harbour, an attractive village, a Neolithic cromlech, Bronze Age standing stones, Iron Age promontory forts, a church or chapel of the Celtic saints and their followers and a castle built by the Norman invaders.

Three Castles Walk
For four centuries following the conquest of 1066, the Normans sought to subdue the rebellious Welsh, building castles as they pushed further west into Wales. In the borderlands of Monmouthshire they built a triangle of castles to control the routes between England and Wales on this strategically important stretch of border country. The Three Castles Walk is a short circular trail linking the ‘Trilateral’ of Skenfrith, Grosmont and White Castles. The scenery of this secluded corner of the Welsh borders is superb - a lovely patchwork of low hills, hidden valleys, fields criss-crossed with hedgerows and small belts of woodland.
